Experiment Instructions

In this experiment, you will judge whether there is any upside-down (inverted) face in each picture.

Your goal is to respond as quickly and as accurately as possible.

If any face is upside-down, respond YES. If all faces are upright, respond NO.

If there is only one face in the picture, judge whether that face is upside-down or not.

 NEXT

Experiment Instructions (continued)

In each trial, you will first see a fixation cross (see example below). Please keep your eyes on the cross.

Then, you will see the picture briefly.

Make your judgment immediately when the picture appears: decide whether there is any upside-down face in the picture.

Press F = Yes     Press J = No

 NEXT

Experiment Instructions (continued)

Your response time will be recorded on every trial.

Try to respond quickly, but avoid guessing.

You may receive a warning message if your response is unusually fast or unusually slow.

 NEXT

Experiment Instructions (continued)

You will be given the option to take short breaks during the experiment.

After completing all trials, you will fill out a few short surveys about your background and your understanding of the task.

This study is important to us; please respond carefully.

In this survey, we are interested in your beliefs about the relation between the number of faces and certain judgments of the image.

Please use the 7-point scale to indicate your belief. There are no right or wrong answers. We are interested in your honest intuitions.
